Welcome to The Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception - the mother of all the missions in California. On July 16, 1769, Father Junípero Serra planted the cross on the hill above San Diego Old Town. In 1868 the cornerstone for the present church was laid, and in 1917 the church was opened for solemn worship.
Throughout the church are icons, stained glass windows into heaven where we look toward God and the heavenly beings, and they look upon us. The first window on the north side of the building near the altar is of Mary, the Immaculate Conception praying to God for us.
You may light a candle that serves as a symbol that your prayer continues before God even when you leave this church.
