I was reading a piece by one of my most favorite writers, Maya Angelou, and I was inspired to create a panel series about "Caged Birds".
In my paintings,
the reason the caged bird
sings
is because she enjoys
comfort
and security
in her own home;
she has discovered
The Secret...
an unlocked door
by which she can come
and go
whenever she pleases
and no one knows
her secret.

This is a painting made with fluid and heavy body acrylics and ink on shell paper ( a type of rice paper with a crushed shell coating); I also used a rubber stamp to add embellishments to the piece.
