Description
"Hverfjall Volcano Cone, Iceland" by Catherine Sherman.
The Hverfjall Volcano cone in northern Iceland stands in the distance. The volcano is a tephra cone or tuff ring volcano, to the east of Mývatn. The cone at its highest elevation is 1,380 feet high (420 meters). The crater is about 0.62 miles across or 1 kilometer in diameter.
In the forefront are birch trees and other vegetation, and then a ridge of lava.
The Hverfjall (Hverfell) Volcano last erupted about 2,300 years ago.

Catherine Sherman replied:
Thank you very much, Lynn! I think the markings are erosion from rain, but I'm not sure.
