There are so many places in New Zealand where you get big reward for only a little effort! Hokitika Gorge, located about 30 km from the town on Hokitika on the west coast of the South Island of New Zealand, is one of those places. In less than 1 km of very easy walking from carpark you reach the turquoise blue Hokitika River and Gorge. First, there is a tantalizing overlook point where you can view the gorge and some downstream farmland. After crossing a swing bridge over the gorge, you come to this viewpoint on some rocks overlooking a bend in the river. I never got tired of the turquoise water of so many of the streams and rivers in New Zealand.
