Description
The hike to Colquhouns Beach runs along the less-explored west side of Lake Wanaka on the South Island of New Zealand, along the Minaret Burn Track. Right from the start there are beautiful lake and mountain views. The hike easily took a lot longer than projected by the Department of Conservation since I stopped every few yards for photos! The trail follows a 4WD track that gently undulates alongside the lake. It's an access road for the station owners, but we saw no humans or vehicles and only had some interesting encounters with cows along the way. If you ever go, learn to say (approximately) “Cuh-hoon†to describe where you want to go!
