Hermit's Bath Time

Description
Lifelong hermit Nik Hougen wanted to take a hot bath every day, even though he lived Utah's rugged Desolation Canyon, without running water or electricity. His solution was to fill an ancient wheelbarrow with cold river water and allow the desert sun to heat it during the day. Then, in the afternoon, when the temperature of the water had reached 90 degrees or so, he would strip and climb in, scrubbing off the day's accumulation of grime. This image has appeared on the cover of several books including Cowboys, Indians, & Hermits, published in 2019. Nik is still a hermit and now lives in the high desert south and east of Moab, Utah.

Great photo. A new role model and good example. Even when I do have running water I always consider it a victory if I can use 5 gallon plastic water bottle full of solar heated rainwater to take a "shower". Nice public service type photo.

Thanks Anette. I love your paintings. Thanks Jayson. FYI it is film, not digital capture. Fuji Velvia.
