Description
This clapboard-covered log home was the center of a prosperous 600-acre farm owned by Solomon and Caroline Heater. It is believed that the house was built around 1800. While the family lost two sons in service to the Confederacy, Caroline Heater, a native of Pennsylvania, was a unionist, who was known to provide shelter and supplies to the North. The house is now owned by the Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation. It sits just south of Middletown, Virginia.
This image is rendered in a painterly finish that lends a sense of timelessness and softness to the scene.
