Title
Hawaiian Kolea On The Move
Artist
Heidi Fickinger
Medium
Photograph - Photographic Print
Description
The Kolea comes to Hawai'i every late summer/early fall to over-winter. They land and stay the winter in unsual places; backyards, parks, and lawns of all sorts. It is thought that they come back to where their ancestors came before the the land was so developed. They are super migrators - flying twice a year across the Pacific Ocean to Hawai'i, Tahiti, New Zealand, Australia, as their breeding grounds are in the Arctic Tundra. On the North American continent, they are known as the Pacific Golden Plover.
