Title
Hartmann's Zebra
Artist
Joan Carroll
Medium

Description
This is a Hartmann’s zebra seen in a wildlife center in Texas. There are other species of zebra that can be distinguished from one another by stripe pattern on the butt, the presence/absence of a dewlap, the size of the ears, and the length of the mane. The short and erect mane identifies this as a Hartmann’s. Other zebra fun facts: No two zebras are alike – each has a distinct stripe pattern. Zebras can sleep while standing. Their night vision is believed to be nearly as good as that of an owl. Zebras are white with black stripes and not the other way around. Zebras can breed with other members of the horse family to produce (sterile) zorses, zedonks, and zonies. Do not try to ride a zebra. There is a reason horses were domesticated and zebras were not!
