Grand Dame, 98 years young, watercolor on paper, by Conni Schaftenaar.
My friend's 98-year-young mother done in watercolor as a gift for her. Photo was taken by her husband as they sat on her patio enjoying the summer afternoon. She looked so regal and content, I just had to try painting her, plus the hat sort of reminded me of photos of Georgia O'Keeffe!
At 98, she still lives on her own, still drives, and does quite well - truly a Grand Dame!
2022 update - as of January, she is 100 years old, STILL living on her own, STILL driving - she rocks!!!!
2023 update - as of January 2023, this lovely lady turned 101. On February 25, she left us, with her daughter and son-in-law at her side, under hospice care. Rock on, dear lady, you were an amazing woman!
