Perfect days don’t happen all the time – that’s why we remember those special ones, the ones in which the sun is warm, the feeling is light, the adventure is exciting but not alarming, the time goes quickly but not too fast.
Golden Sea, the artwork, invites the viewer to step onto the sailboat with a group of happy people, to settle into a spot where you can join in with the day of sailing. Perhaps you know nothing about sailing, and this is your first time out on the boat – it doesn’t matter, because the friendly group is there, and there is something for everyone, even the most rank novice, to do.
As the afternoon wanes into evening, the sun descends lower into the sky, turning it from blue into a deep, resonating gold. The sea itself reflects this warm glow, and the total environment becomes one of magical fantasy, a place where colors don’t look the way we expect them to. It’s almost like stepping into another dimension.
There’s something about sailing – about being on the water clipping along – that gives a sense of exhilaration and joy. It’s not like driving, with all the stop lights and horns blaring and drivers who do things that simply don’t make sense. With enough water in front of one, it’s possible to get away from the crowds (because even in sailboats there are “drivers†who do things that don’t make sense), and feel the openness of the water, see the seascape of waves stretching out before one.
This is a time to put away the phone, to forget about work, to focus solely and concentratedly on the moment right here, right now, in the midst of a Golden Sea.
