Description
Laburnum is sometimes called golden rain or the golden chain tree. They are native to the mountains of southern Europe, though this one is growing nicely on Useppa Island near Charlotte Harbor in Florida. The yellow clusters of flowers hang among the green, leafy branches.
Scientifically it is a genus of two species of small trees in the subfamily Faboideae of the pea family Fabaceae. The species are Laburnum anagyroides—common laburnum and Laburnum alpinum—alpine laburnum.
