Description
This digital photograph captures one of the statues on the rear pavilion of the Philadelphia Museum of Art in spring. This bronze statue, created by Warren Wheelock and erected in 1947, commemorates General Friedrich von Steuben, a brilliant reformer and trainer in the Prussian army who took a position instructing the Continental Army in America. During the bitter winter of 177-78 on Valley Forge, he organized and disciplined the soldiers into a powerful force. In return for his great service, he was repaid with a pension and granted large tracts of land by several states.
