During my trip to the River in New Jersey near my home, I came across this furry family or wild rabbits. The 3 brown rabbits in this photo all seemed to be looking at something to the left. Their ears are perked up, their cottontails white. They were very cute bunnies sitting in the grass. One of the rabbits was small, the others were a little larger. But they all looked fuzzy and friendly.

There are 8 different genus in the Rabbit family including European, Cottontail, and the Amami. A male rabbit is called a Buck and the female is called a doe. A baby rabbit is called a Kit or kitten. Rabbits live in meadows, forests, woods, deserts, grasslands and wetlands. They live in groups and more than half of the population lives in North America. They have two sets of incisor teeth and breathe through their noses. Their long ears are an adaptation from detecting predators. Their hind legs and large and powerful and their front paws have 5 toes, while the hind feet have 4 toes, but none of the paws have pads. Wild rabbits range in size from 8 inches in length to 20 inches. Their fur is most commonly brown and gray. They can see almost 360 degrees except for a small blind spot at the bridge of their nose. They are prey animals and constantly aware of their surroundings. They are most active at dawn and dusk and sleep an average of 8.4 hours, often with their eyes open. They are herbivores and eat grass and leafy weeds. They are often used as a symbol of fertility or rebirth and are associated with Easter and Spring.
