Photographic artwork by Cindy Treger. Photographed near Lake Meade, East Berlin, PA. I was lucky enough to capture this female Northern Flicker, Colaptes auratus, as she landed on a fence post. It has been eight years since I have seen a male Northern Flicker near the house. This is the first female that I have spotted. Her bill has some mud on it from digging for insects. She has an adorable pose as she shows off her gorgeous plumage.
