The original painting was created for a El Dia de Los Muertos "The Day of the Dead" art exhibit at Cottonwood Center for the Arts in Colorado... their largest exhibit of the year !
The mythology behind the owl is that it is a messenger between the world of the living and the world of the dead. The roses in Mexican Culture signify life (life side of the owl), and the carnations represent the dead (spirit side of the owl). In the background is the sunset over the Mexican desert.
