Description
In Hawai'i, there are two types of kalo (more often known as taro), wet land kalo that is grown similarly to rice, in wet paddies and dryland kalo, which uses the abundant rainfall to irrigate the plants. Both methods of growing kalo are done completely by hand. Each keki (young) plant is planted by hand into a hole that is dug with a large stick or other implement. In this image you can see younger plants in the foreground and plants that are maturing quickly.
