I joined the 365-day Journal challenge for 2022 and here is my ‘Day 183’.
July 2, 2022, Journal Entry:
When we were in northern California, our daughter and her husband took us to see Fort Funston Beach. It was a foggy cold day there but beautiful scenery. These old cypress trees were on the hiking trail down to the beach. They are huge and the trunks became gnarled and curved from the wind as they grew. The orange-red lichen made them especially interesting. I was tempted to edit this image with a painterly style but realized these trees are remarkable in their natural state, so I just mildly enhanced the tones.
Fort Funston State Beach is on the southwest coast of San Francisco. It was once a U.S. Army Defense installation that was built in 1900 but inactivated in 1963. It is now a National Park. There are hiking trails and it is dog friendly; there were so many happy dogs running around the beach and trails. It is known to be a windy area, so the cool air is refreshing as you hike up the hills after going down to the beach. It was a beautiful hike to the beach and to see all the plant life on the way.
