Description
Photographed at home, a miniature replica, and digitally enhanced, a religious symbol, "Crown of the Holy Spirit", which is celebrated yearly, in the Azorean Islands, of Portugal.
Festa do Espírito Santo (Festival of the Holy Spirit) ~ This festival is usually held on Pentecost Sunday (a.k.a. Whitsuntide or Whitsunday), the seventh Sunday after Easter, but could be held on any Sunday between Easter and Pentecost Sunday.
The Crown, of the Holy Spirit is a reflection, of The Crown of Torah.
"There are three crowns: the crown of Torah; the crown of priesthood; and the crown of royalty. However, the crown of a good name is greater than all of them" – Pirkei Avot: 4:13
No one is above the law, that is why The Crown, of A Good Name ~ is greater than all of them.
Joachim of Fiore (c. 1130, /35 - 1201/02), a millenarian prophet, a poet and artist, who, on the basis on his interpretation, of the Book of Revelation, came up with the idea, of the AGE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, which would later, greatly influence the Cult of the Holy Spirit. The Fourth Council of the Lateran, in 1215 condemned some of his ideas about the nature of the TRINITY, but did not declare him a heretic.
The origins of the modern cult and its rituals are not definitively understood.
In Portugal, Queen Elizabeth (Isabel), (1271 – 1336) originally a Princess of Aragon, began to take food from her table to the poor, during a famine. King Denis (1261 – 1325) admonished her, to stop doing so. One day, a servant told him, that the Queen went out, to visit the poor. The king went out, furiously, to catch the Queen, for disobeying him. He saw her with something under her cloak, and suspected it was bread; therefore, evidence, of her disobeying him. The Queen opened her cloak, it was roses which tumbled out, instead of bread, this occurred in January. The King fell to his knees, and begged, for her forgiveness. Since, then the King allowed, the Queen, to give food, to the poor.
The use of a crown, in the Holy Spirit Festival stems from Queen Elizabeth (Isabel), through prayers, she had promise, to give her crown, each year, to the ceremony, if the people's suffering was reduced.
Queen Elizabeth (Isabel), introduced and encouraged, The Feast of the Empire of the Divine Holy Spirit.
The Festival of the Holy Spirit is a religious sub-culture.
In the Azores:
A Brotherhood was formed, to organize the festival. When someone made a promise of devotion, if their own suffering was reduced, or if they had really good luck, a drawing of straws, or name selected from a hat, one person, becoming the Mordomo (leader), will then carry the expenses, organize the event, ~Meat, Bread, Sweet Bread (massa) and Wine is distributed out into the community (meat, soup and milk traditionally). The poor are privileged recipients, who equally take part in the celebrations, while all offenses are pardoned, in order to receive the Holy Spirit.
