Crail, located in the charming East Neuk of Fife, is an enchanting fishing village with a rich historical significance. The village's origins can be traced back to the ancient Pictish era, as evident from its name, which incorporates the Pictish/Brythonic term "caer" meaning "fort." Within the local parish church, dedicated to the revered early saint St. Maelrubha, a Dark Age cross-slab is carefully preserved.

Nestled around a picturesque harbour, Crail boasts an abundance of traditional buildings spanning from the 17th to the early 19th centuries. Many of these architectural gems have been lovingly restored by the National Trust for Scotland. This idyllic village serves as a popular muse for artists, drawing inspiration from its scenic beauty.
