Autumn is a time like no other β not only because of the blaze of color from the trees and bushes. While these reds, rusts, corals, golds, oranges, and yellows are glorious in and of themselves, it is the autumn sky that fully brings out their full, complete beauty.
The clear blue sky of autumn is unique in its blueness, as if the cooler weather of fall bathes the firmament with a deep, translucent wash. Set against the colors of the trees, the entire landscape becomes one of fleeting, magical fantasy. From one day to the next the colors change, and the vibrancy of both flora and sky retain their intensity for a short amount of time.
Country Blue Sky, the artwork, invites the viewer into this magical, fantasy, autumn landscape β but the beauty of it is that it is not fantasy. Such landscapes do exist β for a fleeting time β and when we are willing to stop all the busy things we are doing for a moment and take a gentle walk in the country, we surprise ourselves by encountering quiet, yet intense, beauty.
And what of those who live in an urban setting, far from the winding roads and waving grass, the rustling leaves of trees and bushes? Even within a completely man-made environment it is possible to see signs of natureβs hand, and indeed, the slightest wisp of grass is all the more beautiful for being all the more rare. It is challenging in the city to find these gifts of nature, and in meeting the challenge one may find the desire to get out, to get away β free from the noise and the distractions and the pollution and the hubbub.
And therein lies the invitation of artwork, artwork like Country Blue Sky. If one canβt get out, if one canβt get away, if oneβs only encounter with nature is a tree planted by a shopping center, then artwork invites one to step, mentally and deep within oneβs soul, into the land of a fleeting, magical world β a world that merges the mystique of fantasy with the beauty of real.
