It was midday, hot and sunny for November, and I had the afternoon to wander around Moab Utah before meeting up with a group in the late afternoon. I wandered into a hiking store, always on the hunt for the perfect hiking pants. After actually finding some pants that fit I was talking with a salesperson who told me I should take the hike out to Corona Arch: it was only 1.5 miles and it was close to town. I figured I had just enough time to do the hike before I had to meet up with a group later and I had seen enough of Moab. So I hustled back to the hotel, gathered my gear and took off. I hadn’t read up on the hike so I had no idea what to expect. Reading later I found a site that said “Few hikes culminate with such wow as the Corona Arch Trail”. How true! Corona Arch is one of the largest in the Moab area but is not in Arches National Park. It is composed of Navajo sandstone and measures 140 feet across by 105 feet high. The person under the arch give some perspective as to its massive size.
