Description
The History of the Colorado Rockies began in 1991 when a Major League Baseball expansion franchise for Denver was granted to an ownership group headed by John Antonucci. In 1993 the Colorado Rockies started play in the western division of the National League. Since that date, the Rockies have reached the MLB postseason three times, each time as the National League wild card team. Twice (1995 and 2009) they were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. In 2007, the Rockies advanced all the way to the World Series, only to be swept by the Boston Red Sox. For trivia buffs, The Rockies are the only team in major league history to be involved in sweeps throughout post season play. Of course the final sweep was their loss to the Boston Red Sox. In 1993, the first year the Rockies Played major league baseball was played at Mile Hi Stadium, which was a football and baseball stadium.
My son who was 4 at the time, spent the entire summer getting autographs of the original starting line up of the Rockies who played their first ever game against the NY Mets in NY. On the final home game the Rockies played in Denver, Colorado and we were able to complete getting the autographs of all those players from that first game and included the autograph of Don Baylor who was the manager. The final autograph was of Charlie Hayes, 3rd baseman, who rarely autographed and on this day my son was the only one of the many fans trying to get his autograph. The bat in the case on top in this image is that autographed bat and the case was designed and patented by me. Needless to say this is a family heirloom.

A perfect image for a Colorado Rockies fan! Well done!
Christopher James replied:
Thanks Judi....We have a history with the Rockies and collected a lot of autographs during the opening season. And my oldest son who was 4 then was portrayed on CNN during the ground breaking of Coors Field....

Great idea! l/f/p
Christopher James replied:
Thank you Patricia.....from research I've done it appears that limited edition bat is the only one in existence with the autographs of the starting line up!!

Outstanding, Christopher! I've always loved the Rockies and waited till they played the Mets so I could see them. Who knew that 25 years or so later I would move to Denver. I won a Colorado lottery promotion and had the opportunity to be on the field, run the bases, and play catch with my niece the afternoon before a game. In Florida now, but what an experience - and yours sound amazing as well! Love the special design, too!
Christopher James replied:
Cool....It certainly was the summer of summers!!! We were at the ground breaking for Coors Field and there were so many people we couldn't see much, so I stood my son up on the roof of van so he could see....eventually some one came along and said he couldn't stand up there...he had his little glove and hat on....Later that night we were watching the news and apparently the cameraman for CNN, rather than filming the officials he saw my son and zoomed in on him...what a cool shot and all the channels picked it up!!! I too am in Florida now...

What a great shot and collection, Christopher, and how cool that you were able to complete the autograph set! L/F
Christopher James replied:
Thank Wes.....The history went on when the catcher whose autograph is on this bat, went on to be the manager of the New York Yankees and a World Series championship....
