Child Of Eden

Description
A bouquet of radishes is the prize in a young child's hands. Life is simple and sweet.
Such is childhood – or rather, such is what childhood should be, because those of us who have children in our lives to love are well aware that there are too many children in the world who battle issues that no child should ever face.
It is for this reason that it is worth looking at children, and childhood, and fully encompassing their sense of innocence, trust, and vulnerability. In the artwork, Child of Eden, we see a young girl holding a bouquet of radishes as if they were the most beautiful bouquet of flowers – and indeed, in her eyes, the radishes possess a beauty and color and form that puts them on the same level, or higher one, that any flowers from the florist.
Children see things differently than we do and while, as adults, we can patronize them and chuckle at their charm and childish wit, sometimes it is worth forgetting that we are so much older and wiser and stopping to truly listen to what they say, and try to understand how they think.
Because they don’t judge others based upon what car those others drive, or how those others do their hair, or what kind of accent those others have, or what color of skin those others have. They may observe – sometimes without any tact at all – about how different those others are, and how they have never seen anything like that before, but that’s where they stop: they simply observe and marvel at the difference, and then move on to invite those others into their play, or ask those others a question, or sometimes – if those others seem threatening or distant – move on without those others.
Children are, in many ways, living in a Garden of Eden that we, as adults, expel ourselves from willingly.
