Description
This was originally known as the Field Building and today is better known as the Bank of America Building. This was the last major building constructed in Chicago prior to the Great Depression and would be so until the early 50’s when the first Prudential Tower was built.
From a photographer’s perspective, there are so many interesting angles both inside and outside that one can easily spend lots of time exploring the craftsmanship and the play of light and color. The sheer amount of marble in this two-story lobby has opulence all in itself. The metalwork is equally impressive; you just don’t see that kind of decoration and attention to detail in newer construction.
In view is the main entrance from LaSalle Street which is the main street to the Financial District. The other side is the Clark Street entrance and is a carbon copy of this entrance. In between these entrances is a vaulted two-story ceiling with two cross bridges spanning the opening. A beautiful building indeed.
All proceeds will be donated to Chicago's Cornerstone Community Outreach in honor of photographer Richard Cleis, 1965-2021.
