I'm always looking for interesting architectural images with important lines of beauty. This S curve bridge to nowhere over the Honga River is located along the Chesapeake Bay. The roadway created a slalom twisted effect leading to the curved bridge with stunning wood piers supporting the bridge. I imagine in bad storms this bridge is covered with water over the causeway. I love the lines of this photograph. It is available in color, but also black and white.
The back story of this bridge is the following. The government proposed replacing the bridge to an end chain of small islands because the height of the old bridge would not accommodate larger boats trying to go under the bridge to the Honga River. The bridge was replaced costing millions and millions of dollars. When completed larger boats still could not go under the bridge because none of the planners noticed the bed of the water was too shallow to allow the larger boats access from the Chesapeake Bay. So much for government waste and inefficiency ... the bridge to nowhere.
