More than ready to head home, I was tired and patience is hard for me. The sunset wasn't going to materialize, but within minutes this layered view appeared. This overlook is located off the Blue Ridge Parkway in western North Carolina, near the merging of the Smoky Mountains and Gatlinburg in easternTennessee near Maggie Valley. Both Cowee Mountain and Thunderstruck Overlook are great for sunset shots during Repuscular or twlight. Photographing at the overlook trying to keep my cool as the sun dipped below the horizon and not be overwhelmed by this sight of the mountains was a bit daunting. The colors were popping, the rust, oranges and yellow highlights contrasted against the blue smoky colors enthrawling me as I was capturing the scene. Off in the distance smoke was appearing, with pine scents wafting in the breezes. Each layer of mountains was processing the light in a destinct manner, filtering each color in a different way. When I got ready to edit, I had to create the image as a panorama. Nothing less would do the scene justice.
