Description
Many people have traveled to Canyon de Chelly National Monument for many years. Private Navajo guided tours are enlightening to the plight of these brave Ancient Puebloan peoples. Fear and misunderstanding of the Native American peoples by the settlers of the west, brought tragic events, which eventually, led to the destruction of these first Americans.
This petroglyph, or rock paintings, shows horses with mounted soldiers. Riding alongside, were the early Native American people on Pinto horses. This work of art shows how the Spaniards came to Christianize the Native Americans, not realizing these indiginous peoples had a rich heritage of traditions and religion. Nonetheless, these early settlers to the west, looking for gold, overtook the people, Dine. Many died from disease brought by the settlers. Many eventually were murdered by the settlers looking for gold assumed to be rich in the canyon. No gold was found.
Eventually, Kit Carson, ravaged the families living in peace among these canyon walls, living in harmony with Mother Earth, decimated the peoples in this magnificent canyon. This will be told in other photos taken in the canyon.
