Description
This Timber Rattler was posing pretty for the picture, maybe he is just a shy snake with a pretty yellow stripe down his back? It is said that this pit viper is not aggressive and if left alone and not threatened will remain coiled up. Also known as the Canebrake Snake or Banded Rattlesnake, it is the third largest venomous snake in the US.
This snake is part of the reptile house at Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park. The have a nice selection of both venomous and non-venomous snakes native to Florida.
