Description
I encountered two of these burial presentations at Abbey Seeon and could not find definitive information except the possibility of them depicting Fredrick II, Count of Driessen and Engelbert, Duke of Carinthia.
The Kloster (Abby) Seeon was founded in 944. The monastery is an island on the Klostersee . The Abby developed significant scriptorium manuscripts used by many other monasteries and churches. Around 1180 the present church replaced the 11th century Romanesque style original. Alterations carried out between 1428 and 1433 transformed the church to a Gothic Style. In 1579 the church was decorated with Renaissance frescoes showing scenes form the life of Christ, the Virgin Mary, the patron Saints Benedict and Lambert also the founders, Aribo and Adala. Today the abby is used as a cultural center. We visited while in the Chiemsee area because the cousin I was traveling with was born there. She told me the small island and Abby was very picturesque and I now agree.
