Bull Moose Against a Backdrop of Aspens

This bull moose had perfect timing. He waited until fifteen minutes after sunrise to put in his appearance. I had just finished with the sunrise and was making my way to the far end of Maroon Lake as I heard moose sometimes can be found, and sure enough, there he was. He entered the water, took a drink. made his way to the shore. By this time he had captured the attention of a number of hikers and photographers who were there. He went back into the water and then started to make his way alongside the lake to the east end near the parking lot, before disappearing into the aspens. In case you’re wondering, I’m using a telephoto and a tele-extender, so I am not as close as these images appear. However, the combination of the number of people gathering to watch, especially those that try to capture the moose with their cell phones, and the wild animal, does create a fairly dangerous situation for both the onlookers and the moose.
