Buckeye Butterflies have returned to my area in a big way! This one is an especially gorgeous one. At times he looks a bit dull, but when the sun hits him just right, he is so colorful! I love the orange red bars on his 'shoulders' and those eye spots just glow an iridescent blue/purple. This is his brilliant dorsal view, but when he closes those wings up (ventral view) he is simply a brown butterfly!

2019 has been the year of the Buckeye Butterfly! I am thrilled to say that this year, I have been seeing these little guys everywhere I go in Columbus, Ohio. Being the Buckeye State seems that we should be filled with these beautiful creatures, but the past few years have been empty. I actually went several years without seeing one!

Whenever I get close enough to try to photograph a Buckeye they fly off, (not ones to dilly-dally!) I don't mind though. I am just thrilled to be in the chase again!
