Blue Petals is a beautiful Chinese Aster.This particular flower is native to China and Korea. It is an annual or biennial flower. The leaves wilt and fall away prior to the flower blooming. They can grow any where from 4" to just under 2' tall. The large solitary flower head grows at the top of the stem and sometimes on branches. The head is lined with layers of phyllaries, those in the outer layer large and leaflike, measuring up to 1/2" long. The inner layer can be purple-tinged. The head contains one or two rings of ray florets, most often in shades of reddish purple. Cultivated varieties can have ray florets in most any color, including red, pink, blue, purple, and white. There are many yellow disc florets in the center. The fruit is a rough-textured, glandular, purple-mottled cypsela that turns gray with age.

Asters are a plant of the daisy family. The plants bring beautiful color to any garden in the fall. They are extremely durable and will last through the end of the season. Asters can also grow in all hardiness zones.

The sight of beautiful flowers is a delight to my eyes and my photography senses. I rarely pass a flower that I don't get a few photographs of.
