Blue bearded Iris, colored pencil drawing on paper, by Conni Schaftenaar.
This is my first effort at two new approaches to creating art - first, I did a "blind continuous drawing" of the iris petals, and then, relocating my pencil, did a blind continuous drawing of the stem and blossom husk. The iris leaves were created as negative space when putting in the background. Once I had the flower and stem, I started laying in color and shading, using Prismacolor colored pencil. I was amazed at how well my blind drawing of the flower turned out! And, it is a completely 'zen' exercise to apply color in small amounts, shading, burnishing, adding and taking away. I hope you like this effort - more to come!
