"Black-handed Spider Monkey" By Diann Fisher. (Ateles geoffroyi) This endangered spider monkey is extremely well adapted for life in the treetops of Central America, Mexico and portions of Columbia. These primates have a prehensile tail which is longer than their body that they use to hang and swing from and acts as a third limb. In fact, because of their use of the tail, they have no thumb due to lack of need evolution adaptation. Captured at the Birmingham, Alabama Zoo.
