Bird Pad Boredom--There's a Nap for That shows a sleepy macaw in his cage in a Caribbean island tourist restaurant. Tired of the attention from the day-trippers and paparazzi, this parrot head merely closes his eyes. The rusted cage was retouched out and a dark background painted in.
About macaws: macaws are long-tailed, colourful New World parrots. Six of the Psittacidae genera are classified macaws: Ara, Anodorhynchus, Cyanopsitta, Primolius, Orthopsittaca, and Diopsittaca. They are the largest parrots in the world -- are king-sized members of he parrot family! Their large, strong, curved beaks are designed to crush nuts and seeds. The body of the scarlet macaw from beak to tail can be as long as 33 inches. Macaws are native to Central America (especially Mexico), South America, and formerly the Caribbean. Most species prefer forests, especially rainforests, but others prefer woodland or savannah-like habitats. Large beaks, long tails, and relatively bare, light-colored, medial (facial patch) areas distinguish macaws. A macaw's facial feather pattern is as unique as a fingerprint.
