Description
POPLAR trees occur in BC in 2 native species. Balsam poplar (Populus balsamifera), or cottonwood, is the largest broad-leaved tree native to BC. It grows province-wide and is distinctive for the fluffy, down-like seeds that fill the air in early summer. The light wood is used for furniture, plywood, boxes and veneer. Trembling aspen (Populus tremuloides) occurs throughout the Interior. It is one of the first trees to colonize areas disturbed by LOGGING or FOREST FIRE
