Warm afternoon light as the sun gets ready to drop behind the Northfield hills above the Slaughterhouse covered bridge. View from down the Dog River of the Slaughterhouse covered bridge. Built in 1872, stands today at 142 years old. It seems that it probably was updated in the 20th century with one or more I beams under the deck due to the high weight limit (8 tons). This is one of what I term the Northfield 5. Five covered bridges in Northfield Vermont.
