An autumn afternoon photography excursion took us to the Robbins Hill Scenic Area off the National Scenic Byway in Solon, Maine. It is also part the Old Canada Scenic Byway which runs through the Upper Kennebec and Moose River Valleys along Rte 201 from Canada to Skowhegan. In1965, this portion was established and funded by Maine D.O.T., The National Scenic Byway Program (D.O.T.) and the Federal Highway Administration. This particular byway offers a broad picturesque view of the eastern slopes of Saddleback Mountain,Mount Abraham, Lone Mountain,Black Hill,Spaulding Mountain,Sugarloaf Mountain and Burnt Hill. Rich colorful fall foliage consisting of hardwood and softwood trees blending with soft mountain shadows made this trip especially enjoyable; spectacular late afternoon and early evening sunsets highlighting various cloud formations make the whole valley and mountain chain an even more memorable visit.
