Description
Arkansas River in Fall by Lynn Sprowl.
The Arkansas River is a major tributary of the Mississippi. It travels through Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. 1469 miles long and is the 6th longest river in the United States. Its origin is in the Rocky Mountains near Leadville. Actually the Arkansas River has quite an interesting history.
I've often wondered why some rivers are creeks or streams...what's the difference so I did some research. Generally the difference is size: you can step over a brook, jump over a creek, wade across a stream and swim across a river. They said that the difference is somewhat hazy and depends on who named them and when they were named.
