Description
Docked in port at Oswego, NY, most of us, it's hard to imagine a vessel of this magnitude coming to the end of its useful life. Destined for a scrap yard in Brownsville, Texas, the 690 foot long American Fortitude was built in 1953, as the Ernest T. Weir. Sold in 1978 and renamed the Courtney Burton, she served on the Great Lakes transporting taconite, limestone, iron ore pellets and wheat. This massive floating container was purchased as the replacement freighter for the Edmund Fitzgerald, whose tragic fate was forever memorialized in the haunting song by Gordon Lightfoot in the mid 1970's.
This piece has been given a softer, painterly look which could be enhanced further with a Somerset Velvet or Picture Rag paper. Always choose your media, based on the look and feel you want from your wall art.
When choosing fine art landscapes, consider acrylic or metal prints. They bring out amazing detail and depth that can be especially captivating for this type of wall art.
