Description
It was the beautiful symmetry of its canopy that caught my eye, along with the fact that even in the last days of November when I captured this image, leaves still lined the branches that spread so wide above the grassy meadow. It is beautiful in color (see the color version of this image, Outstanding In Its Field), but as I looked at the color photo, I thought it would make a striking grayscale image, too. In creating this version, I attempted to evoke a bit of a dreamlike mood, while maintaining and enhancing the textures of the tree's foliage and the long grasses below. I think the result is quite effective... rather pretty, a little ethereal, and a bit dramatic.
